Yummy in My Tummy in Week 9

Kindergarten H

In Kindergarten we have been reviewing all the different letters and sounds in the alphabet. This week we have been particularly focussing on listening to the sounds in CVC words and trying to identify the different letters. On Wednesday, 16 September, we made some tasty   r…e…d… j…a…m that was  h...o…t and y…u…m. The children washed and sliced the strawberries and mixed them with some other ingredients to make the delicious treat. Nothing goes better with jam than some fresh scones, so Mrs D’Andrea helped the students to sift, mix, stir and bake some yummy scones to go with the jam. While the scones were baking, the children practiced some of their sounding out and writing skills by creating some amazing sentences about what the jam looked like. After all our hard work, we got to taste our creations and it wasn’t long until they were all in our t…u…m..s!

Year One

What an exciting, busy and fulfilling fortnight in Year One.
During Physical Education this fortnight we have been improving our fundamental movement skills. The students have been learning how to skip, jump and hop correctly. When we are hopping we need to use our lifted foot to propel ourselves forward. We have played a number of games to improve our skills. During fitness we have been playing Shark Attack to continue developing our movement skills.

Last week we celebrated our College Feast Day. Our class LIFE leaders had the privilege of completing their first role as leaders. They all played a special part in the whole College Mass and did a fantastic job of representing the Year One class.
A HUGE thank you to all the lovely families for making Jelly Cups and helping sell them on Friday. They were a real hit with the students, managing to sell over 140 cups! The face painting was definitely a hit and the children loved the sumo suits as well.  It was lovely to see the children enjoying the day and happily interacting with other students in the College.

Year 1 students have been learning all about digital literacy through an iBook on their iPad. The students have been learning a song called, “Pause and Think Online”, which has helped them to learn to: THINK with their head; FEEL with their heart; BALANCE with their arms; LISTEN to their gut and STAND up on their legs. Each of the actions to go with the song help them to remember what to do in order to stay safe online. These are core learning skills in a digital age and it is important for the students to know and understand what information needs to be kept private.

Year Three

The Year 3 students have had a busy week being reporters, journalists, photographers and editors as they worked in teams to produce the inaugural HCC Zoo Magazine! The class has been learning about magazine cover layout and produced their own designs. Our target audience was the Year 2 class. We invited them to visit our display and vote on their favourite. We are now working in teams to convert our top six designs into full magazines. We are looking forward to sharing these with everyone at the start of Spring Term.

The students also enjoyed visiting the Kindergarten class last week. The students shared their Frederic Ozanam ebooks created during LIFE Week. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to share their learning around our Class Patron. We are looking forward to working with our buddies more regularly next term.

Finally, please take the time to check your child's hair for head lice. The best way of reducing the spread is for all families to check their child's hair regularly. Further information can be found on the Healthy WA website.
