ACC Celebration Service for God’s Gift of Sport

On Sunday 6 April, Holy Cross College had a unique opportunity. The Most Reverend Timothy Costelloe (Catholic Archbishop of Perth) and The Most Reverend Roger Herft (Anglican Archbishop of Perth) invited selected staff and students to a Celebration Service for God’s Gift of Sport in St George’s Cathedral, Perth.

The service, which was attended by West Coast Eagle Nic Naitanui and Warriors and Scorchers Coach Justin Langer, allowed students to see how elite sports people allow God’s gifts into their lives and how they pray and ask for God’s help in their journey towards being the best sports person they can be.

Associated & Catholic Colleges of WA (ACC) were asked to bring an item that represented their sport. Holy Cross College brought the ACC Aggregate Swimming “G” Division Shield recently won for the first time by the College. The shield was brought up to the altar by the College’s Enrichment Captain, Georgia Heggs, where it was blessed by the Catholic and Anglican Archbishops.

It was a wonderful opportunity to further instill into young sportsmen and women a deeper sense of the many values and virtues present within sports. We encourage our students to reflect on their own unique sporting journey whilst spurring them on to a greater level of commitment and performance in the future.

We thank the following students who gave up their time to attend this very meaningful and insightful service: Georgia Heggs (College Enrichment Captain), Jo-Anna Maynard, Caitlyn McKenzie, Cian Guest, Hannah Schnell and Michaela Maynard.

Year Sevens First Aid Course

Next week our Year Seven students will be undertaking a 2 hour first aid course, through Surf Life Saving Western Australia. The course aims to provide our students with some basic first aid training and knowledge. It will be run at school across Monday and Tuesday to make sure we have intimate seminars where students have time and the facilities to practice the required skills. Your child has been informed of when they will attend the course but these details can be found through the student notices portal. Parents, please keep your eye out for a permission slip that needs to come with your child to the course.
