Holy Cross College Feast Day

Holy Cross College Feast Day is held on the Friday as close as possible to the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross celebrates three historical events: the finding of the True Cross by Saint Helena, the mother of the emperor Constantine; the dedication of churches built by Constantine on the site of the Holy Sepulchre and Mount Calvary; and the restoration of the True Cross to Jerusalem by the emperor Heraclius II. But in a deeper sense, the feast celebrates the Holy Cross as the instrument of our salvation.

The introduction to the Feast Day Mass was awe-inspiring. Many faces of Jesus were projected onto the screen as a number of students reverently moved one-by-one to the Altar to remove individual drawings from what initially appeared to be a blank canvas, only to reveal a striking image of Jesus. Since we are all made in the image likeness of God we were called to see the face of Jesus in all people we encounter.

While we enjoyed the fun and festivities of Feast Day we were ever mindful that we must be grateful for the many blessings we have and that the day is devoted to raising much needed funds to support our House charities. Feast Day 2015 was a great success thanks to the efforts and support of the whole community of Holy Cross College. A total of $5,510.20 was raised, a 30% increase on last year’s total. Funds will be distributed to the following charities:

Frayne
MercyWorks – Timor Leste
Ozanam
Passages – St Vincent de Paul
McCormack
Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart Peru Project
Salvado
Benedictine Missions

The activities and crowd promoted an atmosphere very much like a mini Royal Show! Lots of food, treats and fun activities like face painting, pop-stick game, giant jenga, sponge the teacher, bucking bull, bouncy castle, sumo wrestling, and many more.

Thank you to the many people who contributed and assisted on the day. The weather held off to make it a highlight for 2015.

Mr Peter Collins

Vice Principal
