Dissecting the Journey in Year 9 Big Ideas

Week 8 saw the Year 9s enter the first phase in their new project: Where is the Great City of Oz? As the project unfolds, the students will make strong connections with the essential symbols from the Wizard of Oz - Heart, Brain, Courage and Imagination. This week, one half of the Year 9 group investigated the science of heart and brain, undertaking heart and brain dissections to make sense of the importance of these organs to body systems. In the coming weeks, they will look at the role of body systems to courage (fight and flight response) and imagination.

The other half of the cohort continued their development of their photo narrative skills and began a FlipBoard of one of the 'Great Cities of Oz'. The two halves will swap and complete the alternate activities in Week 11.

Next week, the students will embark on their first journey to two of the Great Cities of Oz - Perth and Fremantle! They are reminded to bring a small object that represents heart, brain, courage or imagination to use for the photo narrative work they will complete on the day.
