How can technology be used in an emergency?

Several year 7 students went on a visit to Ellenbrook Fire Station last week, as part of their Big Ideas question: 'What will save the world, honeybees or computer chips?' These students are investigation how technology can be used to save lives. The students were given a tour of the fire station, and were in the middle of a talk on how technology can be used to alert lots of people to a danger at once, when the alarm bells started to ring for real!

The students lined up to witness the firefighters go out to deal with a chemical spill, before asking any final questions to the firefighter who was left to man the station!
