Skype brings the world closer in Italian!

As a part of the Italian program at Holy Cross College, the Year 6 students along with the Pre-Primary classes, this week have had an opportunity to practise their speaking skills using a Skype connection to an Italian primary and secondary school (“Imiberg Primary and Secondaria”) situated in the Province of Bergamo (Lombardy Region). The Year 6 students from both schools really enjoyed the experience and are planning more Skype exchanges in the future.

While in Italy, Signora Morlotti realised there was an opportunity to find a Primary and Secondary school that is learning English as a second language and start an international cultural program.  This program is called “Immersione Culturale con la scuola Australiana e Italiana” “(Cultural Immersion with an Italian and Australian School).

Students from both countries were able to see each other via the video link, which added another layer of interaction, emphasising the importance of inter-cultural exchanges for our younger students.  It was a fun and very productive session where students were able to engage in using the Italian language with peers of the same age overseas.  Students in Bergamo had a similar challenge – trying to communicate with their new Australian friends.
