Autumn Term Week 6 in the Junior School

Pre-Kindy

Our Pre-Kindy children have delved into the world of nursery rhymes. We have loved singing and dancing to Incy Wincy Spider, Humpty Dumpty and Baa Baa Black Sheep.  The children have made some beautiful art pieces that they have taken home to share with their families. Last week we put on our best smiles for our first ever professional school photos; we can’t wait to see how they look!

Kindergarten
We have been working very hard in Kindy during the last fortnight. With some of the recent rain, our fascination has turned to using our senses to investigate what rain is like. We created our own rainmakers to explore the sound that rain makes on a roof; Mrs Tucker was very impressed with our hammering skills.

We have also explored the many things that start with the letter P. Paesha painted a pink pig that looked perfect! We had lots of fun popping popcorn and we can’t wait to make some pineapple and pepperoni pizzas.

Pre Primary
“Kid you’ll move mountains! Today is your day!”- Dr Seuss

Over the last two weeks we have read Dr Seuss’ famous 'The Cat in the Hat’ story and every student made their own version of the cat. We have explored the characters Thing 1 and 2 which also feature in the story, and then reflected on what we would do if they came to visit our house. Seth worked independently on his writing piece, sounding out all the words as he wrote them. All of the children are doing such great writing this term which is quite impressive to see. They have developed so much since the beginning of the school year.

Eve's mum, Kate, has been assisting in our Math activities. She brought in her Thermomix and the students have been busy making play dough. The students used notepads and pencils to write down the numerals they could see on the Thermomix display. This is REAL LIFE learning. They are learning without realising! Viewing the numeral, counting the value and then writing the symbol.

The Pre Primary’s have been an absolute pleasure this term. They are listening beautifully on the mat, taking turns, becoming responsible for their classroom and belongings and are blossoming as individuals.
