Junior School Update

Pre-Primary

The amazing Pre-Primary children have returned to school with plenty of enthusiasm and are ready for an exciting year ahead. The students are starting to learn some of the routines of being in Pre-Primary and are getting to know their new teachers and friends. One of the highlights has been exploring the rear playground with the giant dinosaur monkey bars. Some of the children have braved the great heights, while others have chosen to continue practising on the bars on the front playground to gain more confidence.

This week we have started our literacy learning centres with a major emphasis on sounding out syllables in words and working on pre-writing lines. It is wonderful to see the children remembering and applying their learning from Kindergarten.

This term in Big Ideas, we will be developing our skills of communication as we explore the question, 'Change everywhere! What is happening?' This question will link closely with our Science unit about weather.

Be sure to come in and check out all the wonderful things happening in Pre-Primary where we are always having a great time!

Year 2

The Year 2's have had a wonderful start to the new school year. The children have responded very well to their new classroom and exceptional new building. We have been revising literacy and numeracy concepts, as well as participating in many team building activities. The children were given the challenge of building the tallest tower with only ten cups. The Year 2's worked in groups of four and quickly realised that a lot of team work was needed. They learned to persist and persevere when their towers fell down in order create the tallest design. The winners of our cup challenge were Ruby A, Ruby T, Ally and Jennah who built the tallest, free standing tower.

In Mathematics, the Year 2's have been revising two-digit numbers through a partner guessing game. One child had to choose a number and their partner had to ask various clues to work out the answer, such as, is it ten more than __, is it ten less than ___ etc. Each incorrect number was then covered with a counter until the correct number was guessed.
