Week 6 Challenges in the Junior School!

Pre-Kindergarten

We have been super busy exploring the indoor and outdoor learning environments and have been working hard to learn how to pack away the things we have used. The children are becoming more and more independent each day and are now attempting to pack their bags on their own at the end of the day; it has been wonderful to see the them trying so hard to do things for themselves!

Our focus in the social/emotional domain has been on learning how to look after ourselves by having proper hygiene practices. We have role played how to sneeze and cough without spreading germs and learnt the song 'Washy, Washy, Clean, Scrub, Scrub', which has helped the children learn how to properly wash their hands and the importance of doing this.

For the next few weeks the children will continue to explore ways that we can be loving during Lent as well as in their everyday lives. We will also begin to integrate some counting songs during Music and continue to explore musical instruments.

Kindergarten C

The students in Kindergarten C have been having a wonderful time continuing with their alphabet adventures. 'cC' Week was all about collaging crowns, cutting, colours, caterpillars and creating with clay. 'dD' Week is all about dinosaurs, dragons, doctors, dentists, dolls and our delightful dads!

Each afternoon we are enjoying sliding open the doors to Kindergarten H and playing with our neighbours. We are having so much fun learning as we play!

Please remember to bring in or email a copy of a family photo if you have not already done so.

Pre-Primary

This last fortnight has seen some amazing achievements. During our Fitness sessions the students have been developing their gross motor skills and strengthening their core and leg muscles. There has been some interesting displays of crab walking.

The students are continuing to develop their Literacy skills. They have been engaging in sight word and letter knowledge-based activities. The students are beginning to use their literacy skills when initiating writing.

In our PATHs lessons, the students are learning how to share and care for their friends. They have begun learning the calm down strategy of the “Turtle” technique. The students are encouraged to stop what they are doing, cross their hands over their body, take three deep breaths, then explain what the problem is and how they are feeling. The poster is used as a visual reminder for the students.

Year 2

It was with excitement and some nerves that the Year Two class participated in their first assembly for the year. They presented themselves beautifully and ensured that it ran smoothly. Well done to all of the children, I was very proud of them all.

Our learning about Mem Fox stories are now coming to an end. We have discovered that she writes lots of different stories and not just about Australian animals! The last story we have read was 'Shoes From Grandpa'. We discussed that Jessie must prefer to have jeans as they are more comfortable to ride a skateboard in! Using the story we began discussing the literacy concepts of subject and predicate. These understandings are helping the students to develop the knowledge of how to construct a good sentence that provides meaning for the reader. The students will continue to expand upon this knowledge to write even better sentences.
