Junior School Imagines Week 5

Kindergarten H

What a busy fortnight it has been in Kindergarten! The students were very excited to attend their first assembly last week and have all decided they are going to work even harder to earn a coveted merit certificate.

This week we have been exploring the letter Cc. We used circles to paint the letter “C” and created some new crayons for the class by melting old ones into new shapes. We turned our names into caterpillars and counted how many letters each person had in their name. Mrs Tucker was very impressed with our amazing counting. We read the story, “It looked like spilt milk”, which showed pictures of unusual white shapes, but they actually turned out to be clouds in the sky. We used shaving cream to imagine what the clouds could look like in the sky.

In big ideas, we have been looking at the question, “Who am I?” We have had wonderful conversations about the people in our families and how much we love them. We also discussed how God has always loved us, even before we were born.

Pre-Primary

This week during a Literacy session, the students found a collection of used cards. They started to write their sight words and letters of the alphabet on the inside of the card. After completing this, they asked if they could have a Letter Box to post their letters. Luckily, there was a box just the right size in the class storeroom for the children to transform into a Letterbox. Next they decided which colour to paint it and then discussed the decorations. Glitter and an assortment of sequins were decided upon.

Other students have been found having a go at writing their sight words and searching for them in literature.

Fine motor skills have been strengthened by threading pasta onto pipe-cleaners, using their finger to form a number, squeezing pegs (with a number written on it) to match a value of dots, pressing a pencil into thin cardboard to form a letter and a whole lot more!

The students are learning so much in Pre-Primary!

Year 1

Can you believe we are nearly half way through the term?

During the fortnight we have been learning lots of football skills. The Year 10, 11 and 12 Sports Coaching class delivered a number of skill sessions to help build the children's confidence when using a football and some techniques. We are very excited to continue our coaching with them throughout the term.

On the 4th of March we lead the Junior School in a Liturgy about imagination. We celebrated that God has given us the wonderful gift of imagination and use it when we experience enjoyment, excitement, new things, thinking of new ideas or creating wonderful pictures, artworks, songs and stories. We thanked God for this gift and sang to celebrate our special gifts.

During Mathematics we have played number games to build on our counting and place value skills. We have taken photos of collections and challenged one another in Bingo and Bingo Plus One.
It’s all go, go, go in Year One!

Year 3

In Year 3 we have been exploring the number line and place value. We are using Book Creator on our iPads to help us demonstrate our learning. We have been looking at different ways to represent numbers as well as strategies to help us order numbers correctly.

In Big Ideas we have had fun working with the Year 2 students to explore local people who have achieved success. We have looked at Irene McCormack, Captain James Stirling, Ellen Stirling, Yagan, Hugh Jackman, Ben Roberts Smith, Dr. Fiona Stanley and Edith Cowan. These people have achieved success in a range or different ways but have all made a difference to our lives today. Some even have buildings, parks and schools named after them! We are looking forward to further exploring ways we can recognise their success here at school.
