The Junior School in Week 4, Summer Term

Pre-Kindergarten

During the last two weeks we have welcomed more friends to Pre-Kindergarten and continued getting to know each other. We have been busy exploring the concept of 'Me' and have done many activities based on this topic. We made rice cake faces and the children enjoyed using a range of fruit and vegetables to represent features of their faces, I think they enjoyed eating their faces too!

The next few weeks will see us continuing to learn the routines of Pre-Kindergarten and getting to know each other more. The children were very excited to share the family photos they brought in and this encouraged some good oral language and conversations about our families. If you haven't yet brought in your family photo, we will be continuing to share photos for the next few weeks.

The children have demonstrated a keen interest in musical instruments so we will be experimenting with these a bit more and adding some of our own music when we sing and dance. It looks like a fun few weeks ahead!

Kindergarten C

The children in Kindergarten C have been working very hard on their alphabet adventures.

Last week we began by looking at the letter aA and completed lots of activities including: apple printing, making apple juice, collaging aliens, role-playing astronauts and cutting out animal pictures.

During the letter bB week we have been creating box constructions, investigating bugs, decorating butterflies and reading lots of books.

We are bound to have lots of fun next week when we embark on learning about the letter cC and the sound that it makes.

Please remember to bring in or email a copy of a family photo for our classroom display if you have not already done so. Have a great long weekend!

Year Two

The Year Two students are developing into budding AFL stars! During our Physical Education class the Year Ten, Eleven and Twelve Sport Coaching students have been teaching us different football skills based upon the Auskick programme. This week we worked on kicking and handling the ball. The students are really enjoying the activities and are eager to get out to the oval each week!

This week we have begun learning how to use some of the different apps on our iPads. We have been learning how to insert audio and video into Book Creator for Big Ideas and we are creating a numbers book, using photos and audio, demonstrating two and three digit numbers. PicCollage has been used to create posters of our spelling sounds. The students are all creating some wonderful work and their technical skills are rapidly developing.
