Assessments & Testing

Bishops Literacy Assessment:
The annual Bishops Literacy assessment has been taking place in Years 3, 5 and 9 for the past few weeks. The testing period completes at the end of week 4. The assessment tests students knowledge of the Religious Education curriculum over the past 18 months.

NAPLAN Online Scaling Assessment:

The NAPAN Online Scaling Study is a set of computer-based tests that will be delivered using the online national assessment platform. The study involves 25 students from Year 7 and 25 from Year 9. The purpose of the Scaling Study is to collect information about the performance of students in ACARA’s multistage adaptive tests (‘tailored tests’) to guide and support development of the NAPLAN 2017 online tests. This study will test numeracy and Conventions of Language in a sample of schools across Australia. The purpose of the data collection is to enable research analyses to online NAPLAN assessment scales (bands).

NAPLAN Online Readiness Testing:

NAPLAN online will provide better assessment, more precise results and faster turnaround of information. Results will be returned to parents more quickly, within a couple of weeks rather than a couple of months. Holy Cross College has been selected to trial the new assessment platform (the computer system the test will be taken on). This trial should not be seen as a ‘test’ of content, it is a chance for the new platform to be trialled in a real-life classroom environment. The trial will be called the Platform Trial and Readiness Test (PTRT). All NAPLAN assessment will be completed online from 2017 onwards.

During Week 5, students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will participate in a trial of the assessment platform, by undertaking up to two online readiness test/s that include examples of the new NAPLAN online questions. Each test will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. Participating in this trial is important, as it will help us make sure we have adequate bandwidth capacity and wireless connectivity. During the trial, schools will also have the opportunity to practice managing the classroom logistics for an online assessment as well as the new test administration processes. Feedback following the trial will help identify improvements that can be implemented before the first online assessments in May 2017.
