Friends of Holy Cross

Friends of Holy Cross

At the February meeting of the Friends of Holy Cross a new Commission of authority to operate and provide service to the community of Holy Cross College was agreed.

The Commission establishes the purpose and guidelines for the operation of the Friends of Holy Cross. The structure recognises the different gifts and interests parents bring to the College and aims to foster positive inter-relationships and spirit within the College community.

There is less focus on meetings and more on building teams around the four LIFE pillars: Learning, Inter-relationships, Faith and Enrichment. The teams, or Councils, have a co-ordinator who works to gather their team to assist in running activities that fall under their particular pillar. For example, one of the common activities of a parent body is to raise funds to help provide items that cannot usually be accommodated within the College budget. This would come under the Enrichment pillar. Some people have a special talent and interest in raising funds while other people do not. For these other people there are still ample opportunities to be involved and contribute to your child’s education through the other pillars of Learning, Inter-relationships and Faith. The Learning Council might run special forums or seminars for parents on topics of common interest; the Inter-relationships Council may hold social gatherings to build community spirit; and the Faith Council might assist with the LifeLink Sleep-out. Teams would only need to meet to organise particular activities and help out on the day of the event, not attend regular meetings.

To ensure the ongoing operation of the Friends of Holy Cross the Commission includes an Executive Council comprised of the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary. The Executive Council and LIFE Council Co-ordinators may meet more often to map out the events for the year and provide support to the LIFE Councils.

The College is entering a wonderful new phase in its operation and the growth of the Friends of Holy Cross presents many exciting new opportunities for parents the be actively involved in their child’s education.
