Year 8: Back to New Norcia Experience

This term in Big Ideas the Year Eights have been researching the history of Dom Salvado and the monastery community of New Norcia. A selection of Holy Cross College students presented their historical journals of landmarks in New Norcia and their tourist attraction video to Abbot John and the Monks of the monastery on a day trip, Thursday 26 September.

The historical journals which have been created by the students tell the stories of famous landmarks in the New Norcia community and how they have changed over time. The students were able to collected detailed accounts of the times and people that influenced each landmark during Curriculum Enrichment Week back in New Norcia. A tourist video specifically aimed at a particular type of tourist group such as the foodie, artist/ architectural and religious tourist was also created by the students and presented to the Monks.

The presentation to members of the New Norcia community enabled the students to develop their public speaking skills and allowed the students to have an authentic audience that provided them with genuine feedback. The students also attended mid day prayers with the Monks which was a memorable and moving experience for all.

Thanks
