Frayne House Mass & Celebration

Ursula Frayne established the first convert school, Holy Cross, in Western Australia in 1846. Starting with one student, Ursula began a school catering for girls of any religious creed; this was the beginning of Mercy education in Western Australia. As Frayne House members we acknowledge the link between the Sisters of Mercy and follow Ursula Frayne’s beliefs, challenging each person to achieve their personal best in an environment which values the respect and dignity of each person.
This year we are celebrating a Jubilee Year dedicated to the Divine Mercy.  On 8 June, we celebrated Frayne Feast day at the College. The next day, 9 June, we also embarked a hundredth year since the death of our patron Sister Ursula Frayne. Sister Ursula Frayne who dedicated so much of her life being “Merciful like the Father”, making courageous choices and decisions.

During the mass we presented our new wooden carving of our College Frayne House emblem, which represents Sister Ursula Frayne hazardous journey sailing to Western Australia on the ship “Elizabeth”. We also offer the money we have raised as a House for the MercyWorks. We hope that this can help continue their good work with the most vulnerable people across Australia, New Zealand and in East Timor.Following mass, the celebrations continued with our House lunch. Both the Junior and Senior School enjoyed some Italian homemade style pizza, drink and an ice cream with an integrated seating arrangement.
