Junior School Update

Year 4

Year 4 has had a very busy start to the year. In Integrated Studies, we have been involved in investigating the people, icons, and events that have shaped Australia.

We have created a large timeline of our Australian history and have been adding information to it as it is investigated and learned. Students have been amazed by the stories of people on the First Fleet and the lives of infamous bushrangers. Ben Hall and Ned Kelly have been some of our favourites to investigate. We have started to create a display of famous icons such as; lamingtons (created early 1900’s), Akubra Hats (founded in the 1870’s) and Australia's first swim team (1909).

We have also learned some of Australia’s most famous poems, such as Waltzing Matilda by Banjo Patterson and My Country by Dorethea Mackellar. Be sure to visit the Year 4 classroom and ask us what ‘Waltzing Matilda’ means? What the Swagman named his swag? Or even, what is a jumbuck? We will impress you!

Year 6

Mathematics

In Mathematics, the Year 6 class is learning about place value. We are learning to identify and recognise the value of numbers according to the columns they're in. We've been completing fun activities to show our understanding and learn more.

English

In English, we are writing narratives. Before we commence writing, we are planning and thinking about the types of characters that we want in our stories. We are exploring how to use verbs, adjectives, and adverbs in our writing. Miss Hickey has taught us how to properly use these words to make our writing more interesting and engaging.

Religious Education.

Sister Irene McCormack became a big part of our class as we discovered she was our year level patron. She has an incredible story. In groups, we created posters that explain what a parish is and why it is important.  We are now focusing on the unit ‘God Who Works’ and are learning about all the amazing work God has done, and continues to do.

Science - with Mrs. Di Pino

In Science, we're learning about microbes. We've learned that there are different types of bacteria that are made of microbes such as fungi or a virus.
