Year 9 Big Ideas Excursion

On Thursday, 5 February, the Year 9s launched into a new year of Big Ideas with an excursion to the Western Australian Army Museum and Monument Hill Memorial, Fremantle. 2015 marks the centenary of the Anzac landing at Gallipoli and the Year 9 Big Ideas project in Summer Term will be framed by this most pivotal event in Australia's history.

The students had the opportunity to tour the extensive displays dedicated to Australia's involvement in World War One and World War Two as well as Australia's involvement in more contemporary conflicts and peace keeping missions. They were also able to gain an understanding of the nature of the World War One trenches through touring the Trench Gallery.

Monument Hill is one of Western Australia's earliest war memorials, built to honour those whose lives were lost in the 'Great War'. The students visited Monument a Hill where we utlilised the steep slopes of the park grounds to form our own unique tribute to the centenary of Anzacs with the students forming the number 1915. The day provided students with the opportunity to connect with the historical significance of 2015 and sparked curiosity with regard to the Big Ideas project for the term.
