Holy Cross College
remembered the courage and sacrifice of all Australian soldiers and support
personnel at an ANZAC Day commemorative service held on the College Boulevard on Friday 24
April 2015.
This was the first time the
College gathered students with their chairs on the Boulevard in front of the
administration entrance around the flagpoles. Students are to be commended for
their deference and efficiency. The service began with a series of drum rolls by Mr McRae. The students’ attention and reverence was amazing.
Ethan Gibbins, Austen
Staples and Tristan Hall were resplendent in their Air Force Cadet uniforms as
they took their places as honour guards raising and lowering the Australian and
Western Australian flags.
Ms Karen Taylor is also to
be commended for her ingenious creativity in making the paper poppy wreaths
from the poppies made by students in HTG and class.
Mr Frank Mallard, a Vietnam
veteran and parent in the College, gave a short address and presented the
College with two books on behalf of the Ellenbrook RSL Association.
Ms Connor, gave an address
highlighting some of the history of the ANZAC legend and commemoration and its
link to the city of Albany. Ms Connor attended the 100th Anniversary
Dawn Service on ANZAC Day in Albany, where she was Principal of St Joseph’s
College for many years.
We are grateful to Mr Harry
Muller for organising the service and thank the staff and students who, so
reverently, contributed to this memorable occasion.
Mr Peter Collins
Vice Principal
