The Ellenbrook Combined Schools’ Anzac Day Service
has grown in strength over the years with the hundredth anniversary
commemoration being the biggest yet.
Schools from the Ellenbrook region came together at
the Woodlake Amphitheatre and ANZAC Memorial on Wednesday 22 April 2015. The
lake and surrounding gardens were breathtakingly beautiful in the Autumn sunshine
with numerous wildlife adding to the solemn atmosphere.
Year 9 students walked the short distance from the
College to the lake in the fine morning sunrise.
Chardonnay Mitchell gave a heart-warming address on
what ANZAC Day means to her. Students from other schools also addressed the gathering. Jonathan Tartaglia
and Megan Jones placed a wreath on the cenotaph on behalf of the Holy Cross
College community.
The Honourable Graeme Edwards, MP, Member for Cowan, gave
an address relating the valour and spirit of the ANZAC’s in standing up against
World War I adversaries to the courage and resilience required to stand up
against schoolyard and cyber bullies.
The combined choirs of St Helena’s Catholic Primary School and Ellenbrook Independent Primary School were outstanding.
Congratulations to
Ms Vicki Harley, Deputy Principal, Ellenbrook Independent Primary School, and
her team of helpers in organising such moving and impressive event.
