On Thursday and Friday
of week three, our year 7 students were involved in both a Retreat Day at
school and a Team Building Day at Ern Halliday in Hillary’s. Ern Halliday saw
our students partake in three activities where fears were faced and friendships
were made.
‘The Big Swing’ gave
students the opportunity to face their fear of heights in a safe environment. Team
mates hauled one student at a time up to 8m in the air. Each courageous year 7
then pulled their own pin and swung through the air like a giant pendulum.
Next up was ‘The Crate Climb’,
which tested their team work, as students designed, built and then climbed the 6m
structure using only crates and encouragement from their peers. To finish the
day, students paddled cross trainers along the sunset coast and
learnt some advanced paddling techniques and skills along the way.
I’m sure all our year 7
students will agree that their time at Ern Halliday was scary and challenging, but
ultimately a brilliant day they will remember for years to come!
