The Camino Salvado is a pilgrim trail that extends from Subiaco to New Norcia, following the journey of Dom Salvado. For the last two years, students from the College have been completing sections of the 250km trail. On Friday the Year 7 students started their pilgrimage, completing the first section from Subiaco to Maylands.
The Year 7s
started the Camino visiting MercyCare where the significance of the Stables and
Olive Trees were explained too them. MercyCare now occupies this site to
provide homes for retired
people, aged care and child care.
A short
walk down the road brought us to St Joseph’s Church. The Camino Salvado pilgrimage
begins here and is represented by a trailhead. Students read our Camino prayer
here and then placed their hand on the trailhead as a symbolic gesture, before commencing
their pilgrimage.
Next
stop was at St Mary’s Cathedral. This is where Dom Rosendo Salvado laid the
foundation stone of the Cathedral. Students also went to see the bell which was
bought by Salvado from the Monastery of San Martin’s in Santiago de Compostela,
Spain.
The
final two stops were East Perth and Maylands.
It was very pleasing to see the students in good spirits and enthusiastic about the wonderful pilgrimage they have started. The weather was also delightful. The students’ next section of the pilgrimage is from East Perth to Guildford.
