Ministry News - Sacraments and the SleepOut

Sacraments

Congratulations to the Year 3 students who made their first Confession last week. It was fantastic to see the Parish Church of St Helena of the Cross full of families from our College, St Helena's Catholic Primary School along with the Parish sacrament class. With over 80 students plus parents making themselves available for the sacrament thanks go to Fr Bona for organising 10 other priests to help him on the night.

This past weekend, where the Catholic church celebrates the centuries old tradition of Corpus Christi or the celebration of the Body and Blood of Christ, we had our first group of First Communicants receiving the Eucharist sacrament during the parish masses. We are blessed to have students from the parish come together to make this sacrament along with the congregation at regular Sunday Masses. This way they are joining in with the members of the parish to continue their journey as Catholics within the Catholic community in which they live. These Masses will continue for several weeks with many of the College staff coming along to witness this special sacramental event. Again thanks to all involved including the various ministries in the parish.

 Holy Cross SleepOut

The College received the Archbishop's Award for our yearly SleepOut in 2013. We continue the tradition in the same week that the Archbishop launches his Annual LifeLink Appeal. We have around 15 staff who are making themselves available on the night to be with our students. Many thanks must go to Ms Kelly Bond, Mrs Carla Pastorelli and Mrs Sarah Brown who are working together to coordinate the evening along with members of our fledgling Young Vinnies group. The Year 12s continue the tradition of serving soup and rolls for the participants on Thursday evening. We will be visited during the night by a volunteer who works for homeless youth in Perth so that the students hear what it is like to be homeless but also get some idea of the extent of the problem here in our great city. Also thanks to the Friends of Holy Cross for helping to serve breakfast on Friday morning.
