Ursula Frayne
established the first convert school, Holy Cross, in Western Australia in 1846.
Starting with one student, Ursula began a school catering for girls of any
religious creed; this was the beginning of Mercy education in Western
Australia. As Frayne House members we acknowledge the link between the Sisters
of Mercy and follow Ursula Frayne’s beliefs, challenging each person to achieve
their personal best in an environment which values the respect and dignity of
each person.
On Wednesday 11
June, Frayne House celebrated its Feast Day. The blue pride of Frayne was evident throughout the
day and one of the highlights was sharing this day for the first time with the
Frayne Junior School students.
The day commenced
with a House Mass, led by our new parish priest Father Bono. In the Mass we
reflected on the faith and courage with which Ursula Frayne left her home in
Ireland to travel to Western Australia and open the first convent school. Father
Bono’s homily reflected on Ursula Frayne’s journey as a pioneer educator. He
delivered three key words for our students to reflect on and try to put into
practice in their every day school life - “Please”, “Thank You” and “Sorry”.
Father Bono’s service left Frayne students in high spirits and he also showed
the students his diverse knowledge in singers like One Direction within his
homily!
The celebrations
continued with a few House photos and our House lunch. Both the Junior and
Senior School enjoyed some Italian homemade style pizza with an integrated
seating arrangement.
Frayne would like
to thank all students and parents who raised funds to help the Sisters of Mercy.
As a House we raised $118 this will be given to the Sisters of Mercy to help
continue their wonderful work.
