21 February 2014
During 2014
Holy Cross College will be celebrating the bicentenary of the birth of Dom Rosendo
Salvado, the founder of the New Norcia Benedictine community and one of our
House patrons.
The Monks of
New Norcia have developed a program of events, focussing on the man, his work
and his legacy. Planning so far includes a major exhibition at the New
Norcia Museum and Art Gallery, Ecumenical Vespers to be held at St Mary’s
Cathedral, a ‘Salvado’ display at the WA Museum and a symposium and
photographic exhibition at the State Library featuring rare photographs taken
in the Salvado era.
The first
of event is the Ecumenical Vespers, which will be held on Tuesday 4th
March 2014 at St Mary’s Cathedral commencing at 6:30pm. The Penrhos College Choir
will lead the congregation along with story telling from Salvado’s memoirs.
Here at Holy Cross College we are commemorating
this milestone with a special Mass on Wednesday 26th February at St
Helena of the Holy Cross Parish Church commencing at 8:30am. We would love for any
one interested to join us for the Mass. Following the Mass, students in Salvado House will
celebrate together with a pizza lunch and some fun activities and games.
