The Winter Term
concluded with an assembly to report on the activities of the Term and to
celebrate the contribution and achievements o students.
We are grateful
to Ms Katharine Baragwanath from the Athlete’s Foot store in Midland Gate,
which runs a school rewards program is to promote and create a relationship
between The Athlete’s Foot, schools and the local community. Participating
schools receive a $5 credit for any shoe purchased at the participating The
Athlete’s Foot store by a student, family member or friend when the School’s
name is mentioned during the purchase transaction. Between 2015-2016 The
Athlete's Foot, Midland gate has raised a cheque to the amount of $340 due to
sales in their store from Holy Cross College students and their families.

We also
congratulate the Athletics Team for taking out second place in the Associated
& Catholic Colleges of WA (ACC) G Division Carnival on 5 September
2016 and winning the Overall Boys Shield. The ACC is an independent
secondary schools’ sports association. The ACC has a membership of over 67
schools catering to more than 48,000 students. The Association conducts
interschool swimming, athletics, cross country and weekly team competitions.
We congratulate all students who participated in the Catholic Schools’ Performing
Arts Festival, which provides an opportunity for schools and students to
showcase their talents in many areas of performance from liturgical dance,
choir, solo instrumental and voice to serious drama and rock bands. Around
26,000 students take part from Catholic Schools across Western Australia. Holy
Cross College was well represented every year.
The College was
awarded an Honourable Mention for the drama production of the Happiest Days of
Your Life. Year 5 student, Jiraphat Phaenglaennoan, also received an Honourable
Mention for his guitar solo. Merit certificates were awarded to the Senior
Band, Dance Group and Junior School Choir and piano soloists; Tristen Lawrence, Anthony Menegola, Tiara D'Lima and Jhermayne Ubalde.
Secondary school students participated in the annual World Series Science Championships during National Science Week. There were some monumental efforts with Holy Cross College performing very well. Holy Cross College students answered 153,909 questions, placing the College 17th globally, third overall in WA and first in WA for its enrolment category. Students who receive a certificate are placed in the top 20% of more than 50,000 participants. 63 students from Holy Cross will receive certificates with the following students achieving particularly outstanding results:
