The Year Ones had a ball during LIFE Week exploring their Big Ideas question ‘Where have we been?”, from cooking through to an excursion to Kings Park, learning some cultural dances and working with their Year Five Buddies.
The
week started with a Pilgrimage to learn about Ursula Frayne. The students
visited buildings around the College that represented Ursula and experienced the
reflection garden for the first time to say a pray to her. This was followed by
some multicultural cooking with the parents, tasting food from America,
Italy, Mexico, Australia and England.
On
Tuesday, we left for our excursion to the Education Centre and Naturescape at
Kings Park. We learnt about the Noongar culture through a story of Chunyart and
the Cheeky Parrot, and then explored the bush of Kings Park in the Naturescape.
The students had so much fun experiencing the mud baths, tall towers and rope
swings.
Wednesday
brought a visit from Bunnings Warehouse to build money boxes. We received
some special help from our parents and Mr Basson. We decorated these using a
country of our choice as inspiration.
A big
day of multicultural activities were held on Thursday as the students worked
together with the Pre Primary and Year Two students. Moving around different
sessions lead by the parents, the students were able to visit several countries
and taste some of the national food, dancing, singing, artwork and more! With every
child brining in a share plate for lunch, the students had a real experience trying food from countries, such as Ireland, India, Sudan, England, Australia
and many more.
The
Year Fives came across for the day on Friday and celebrated a liturgy with us.
Team games followed this, seeing some great skills of collaboration. We continued
to learn more about our Year Level Patron, Ursula Frayne with the help of the Year
Fives.
The
students were very tired, but were very happy after this very exciting and
enriching week.
