Winter is well and truly here! If you think you're cold, think about those that don't have a warm bed to sleep in. How about those that don't have a hot shower? Or even a house to return to?
It is not your responsibility to look after the homeless, but it isyour responsibility to keep the human dignity alive. Helping those in need enriches the heart and compassion within each of us.
This winter, take a step forward and donate to the Vinnie's Winter Appeal. Boxes will be set up around the school for you to place your donations in. A list of items will be advertised in each HTG soon and keep an eye out for posters around the school too.
If you have old trackies that are too small for you or hoodies that are 'out of fashion', drop them into the Vinnie's boxes!
Thank you and take care.

Positive Well-Being
Cooperative skills, team work, belonging and friendship are key aspects of healthy student.
The year 8 students have been partaking in some activities to build these and other invaluable skills. Through activities such as our newspaper protective armour (as pictured) students have investigated how they can bounce back from adversity, be resilient and deal with the stresses of life as a teenager in the 21st Century.
Thanks to the Mind Matters Program, teachers at Holy Cross College are incorporating a whole school approach to the mental health and well-being of our students. Please stay tuned for further updates.

Da Vinci Morning Tea
13 June 2013
Today the Year 5
and 6 Da Vinci students from our surrounding Catholic primary schools held
their morning tea for parents, grandparents and Principals. It is the culmination of a semester looking
at aspects of Forensic Science, and these budding super sleuths are very good
at what they do! Identifying unknown
substances, using microscopes to study hair and fibres, and analysing
fingerprints were only a few of the skills on display, and these students
enthusiastically showed off what they can do.
Next semester will focus on Nanotechnology and its use around us, and
will no doubt enthuse these very able students as well.

Year 10 Career Expo
On Thursday 6 June, Year 10 Students enjoyed a Careers Expo in the College LRC. The purpose of the expo was to get students thinking about careers and subjects in preparation for their subject selection that is coming up soon. We were lucky enough to have some current students from both Edith Cowan and Curtin University for a ‘Lunch Box’ chat. It was a fantastic opportunity to hear what life is like at university. It was interesting to hear these students talk about memories of Year 10 and then onwards into Year 11 and Year 12. They gave students some really good tips for studying, such as:
Make notes
Make notes of your notes.
Do practice problems and exams.
Use flash cards, highlighters and diagrams.
Ask questions & engage
Make the most of your wise teachers
It was a very relevant day and certainly gave us all some food for thought.

Year 8 Big Ideas to Murdoch University
6 June 2013
Year 8 Sustainability Tour of Murdoch University
The Year 8's really enjoyed their recent tour of Murdoch University and all the facilities university has to offer. We were taken on a tour of the engineering department and the university village along with the high tech media department. Many student's came away from the university with brochures about courses they are interested in studying after High School.
Our main objective at the university was to be involved in sustainability workshops and lectures run by Professor Nicole Hodgson. The students were able to ask questions they had come up with to experts in the field of sustainability and gain valuable knowledge that will help with final project due at the end of the term.
